API Anything

USGS Earthquakes APIunofficial

Explore recent earthquakes and search the USGS earthquake catalog.

all live 3 operations, checked by the installs that call them.

Seeded by the maintainers.

Try it

Set up API Anything for your agents:

npx -y api-anything setup

Then ask your agent, which finds this site by itself, or call it from a shell:

api-anything pull usgs-earthquakes
api-anything call usgs-earthquakes getEvent eventId=official20110311054624120_30

Run it here, no install

Run one of these from the catalog's server, with no install: one live read, sent once without cookies, limited per network and cached for 10 minutes. Your agent calls the site from your own machine instead.

recent Get recent earthquakes from a magnitude and time-window feed.

curl -s 'https://api-anything-registry.forth-site.workers.dev/v1/try/usgs-earthquakes/recent?magnitude=2.5&period=day'

getEvent Get details and available product types for one earthquake.

curl -s 'https://api-anything-registry.forth-site.workers.dev/v1/try/usgs-earthquakes/getEvent?eventId=official20110311054624120_30'

Notes

No account is needed. Times are epoch milliseconds UTC; magnitudes and other event details can be revised. Coordinates are [longitude, latitude, depth], with depth in kilometres. Alert and felt values can be null. The tsunami flag is not a tsunami warning.

recent selects a USGS feed, not an exact magnitude filter; a quiet window can return an empty list. significant is the site's significance feed. getEvent returns product types as the site's comma-delimited string, with leading and trailing commas; product availability can differ between the catalog and the cached detail feed.

search uses UTC ISO dates or date-times. Its end date is the start of that date, not the end of the day. Searches are worldwide, with no region filter in this spec. USGS limits a search to 20,000 events; narrow large searches by time and magnitude.

About these operations

Each operation is a request learned from USGS Earthquakes's own web pages: API Anything replays it over plain HTTP and falls back to a browser when it must. Read them as JSON.
